Her role as youth worker is to encourage children of all
ages into the church family.
At present she runs a
crèche on Sunday mornings for the smaller children
along side
Sunday
club for the 5-11year olds. This is run during the 10
o'clock service in church, with the children joining the
rest of the congregation for communion.
There is now a YOUTH CLUB for the 10 to 16 year olds
which takes place on a Friday evenings at the St Cuthbert's
church hall, running from 7 until 9pm. This is in the
very early stages but she hopes this will be somewhere for
the older children to feel they can come and meet to do
activities as well as chill out if that's all they want to
do.
On the 1st Tuesday of the month at St John's church and
the 3rd Thursday of the month at the St Cuthbert's church
hall, she will be running 'Messy church'. This will
cater for families and will run from 3.30pm when people will
arrive and have refreshments. At 4pm there will be an
hour of craft activities set around a theme. At 5pm we will
join in worship for 15 minutes as well as having a small
talk about the themes. With a prayer and song, we will
the sit down to a simple meal.
The idea behind this is to encourage people who don't
normally come to church to take their first steps in the
door. Church for some people can be a scary place when they
don't know any body.
